Practice Being Happy: #6. You can enjoy complaining if you make it an object of interest. Today lets notice complaining. Notice how ofter others complain, but more importantly, notice how often your thinking is complaining. Don’t complain about this, saying, “Oh, damn, I’m such a complainer.” That’s complaining too. As you inquire into this activity you will notice that it is the general noise of the mind, so normal that you don’t even realize how much is going on. Why it’s like an old radio with a knob that you turned to find the stations. Remember that wordless static that kind of hurt the ears. Then you would just fall into a space where there was music or a human voice. It was like suddenly discovering another life on the planet. You were not alone!
The mind is like that, only thought is the static noise always going on and silence is your true voice, the space where you soul talks to you. We are always looking for that station but we don’t turn the dial. We just listen to the static thinking that somehow the station will come up on its own. The practice of being happy is actually turning that dial and looking for..not more thinking and complaining…but stillness. That is the station you are looking for. It’s right there in between your thoughts! But mostly we just listen to the static going on complaining about this or that.
When you discover a station of stillness in your mind, insight can be tuned in. Joy surges up like music. We get a surge of feeling really alive, that we are free, whole and a true child of God. At first you hit this station briefly, just for a moment, and then you lose it and the static comes back.
Today begin to notice this static. And you will discover that the awareness that notices the static is the station you have always been looking for. You will find it marked on the mind’s dial as WYOU. It’s a great station and it will make you happy!
